Every year, Santana Cycles founder Bill, his wife Jan McCready and the german hotelmanager Robert Bauer host exclusive tandemrallies around the world. These are tandemrallies with international participants, where besides mostly American participants, European guests are also welcome. The special thing about these tours are the "floating hotels" which usually take the tandem riders overnight to new and unique starting points for the bicycle tours offered and guided during the day.
Also this year there are some international tandem tours in Bill's event calendar, including some tours in Europe. One of them is a Santana trip we offer exclusively for you with attractive conditions. The starting point located in Amsterdam is especially easy to reach for German and other European tandem riders.
We are talking about this year's Santana Adventure with tours through Holland, Belgium and Germany. The tandem tour will take place from May 10 to 17 2023.
The starting point of the tour is the Dutch capital Amsterdam. In Amsterdam, not far from the central station, we conveniently board the river cruise ship Amadeus Brilliant of the Austrian tour operator and shipping company Lüftner. The trip takes us to small charming villages with local specialties with cheese and sweet pastries. The excursions along the dikes take us past numerous historic windmills. The region is also known for the commercial cultivation of tulips, which are in colorful bloom at our time of year. The colorful day ends in the medieval town of Gorinchem, where we drive along the well-preserved fortifications.
The next day we already reach the Belgian UNESCO cultural site Bruges with one of the best preserved medieval architecture in Europe. Numerous gourmet restaurants, brasseries and chocolatiers can be found in the streets of Bruges. Afterwards we will visit the university city of Ghent. In Ghent, you feel as if you have traveled back in time to the Renaissance, so well preserved and magnificent does the city appear. Nevertheless, it has the largest cycling infrastructure in Europe.
After Ghent, we continued our journey to the commercial center of Europe, Antwerp. The smell of crispy French Fries, freshly baked waffles and handmade Belgian chocolate chocolates will be hard to resist. The next day we will cruise inland along the Albert Canal to Genk, where our tour will take us on one of the most unusual bike paths you have ever ridden. On this bike path you will cross a lake below the waterline! In the afternoon we already reach Maastricht and return to Holland.
The next day we approach the three-country corner of Holland, Belgium and Germany and climb the only mountains in Holland before we visit Aachen. The bishop's seat of Aachen convinces with numerous cultural monuments as a place of coronation of German emperors since Emperor Charlemagne.
After that, our tour heads back north and we start our last day in Venlo with a stop at the idyllic Arcen Castle. There, the famous castle park invites us for a leisurely stroll. Overnight the ship takes us back to our starting point Amsterdam.
During the trip you will be served with breakfast buffet, lunch and multi-course dinner in the panorama dining room on the luxurious ship "Amadeus Brilliant". Along the numerous canals there are always changing dreamlike views comfortably from the ship. Every day bicycle tours of different lengths are waiting for you. So you always have the choice how much distance you want to ride by tandem. Of course you can also stay on the ship and relax your legs. On the ship you also have the opportunity to take advantage of wellness services.
